When I was 21 I stated my first and last New Years resolution
It was simply… “I will never make another New Years resolution”
As 2019 approaches and I struggle to recognize the old man looking at me in the mirror, I am holding fast to my one and only New Years resolution, however I’ve decided to modify my existing constitution, by creating a New Year’s Revolution.
They say that Seventy is the new Fifty, and I must admit that while my amazing body and awesome good looks have taken quite a few major hits in recent years, I find that my mind is still a relevant, functional and objective processor and that I am still loving life and all the challenges that it brings.
We are hosting a New Years party at our house this year for about 20 friends and one of them jokingly declared that 9 pm is the new midnight. While I find her statement hilarious, I refuse to give into adjustments that most people feel necessary because they are getting older.
I may be getting older but I refuse to get old.
My New Year’s Revolution “Never Give Up…Never Give In!”
I am living a life that is summed up best and beautifully by a song recorded in 1992 by Shirley Horn and written by Phyllis Molinary. If you haven’t heard this song, let me be the first to introduce you this poignant yet inspirational work of art.
Here is the first stanza to whet your appetite…
No complaints and no regrets
I still believe in chasing dreams and placing bets
But I have learned that all you give is all you get
So give it all you've got
Give it a listen here and tell me your thoughts!
